Langa Co-Creation: Informal Meat Markets
This project centres on the informal meat markets in Langa, focusing on a collaborative co-creation process with local traders. Our aim was to enhance trade practices, improve food and environmental safety, and contribute to a resilient food system that benefits both traders and residents of Langa.
Our co-creation approach involved:
Workshops: We held multiple workshops to foster understanding and connection with traders, using techniques like empathy mapping and active listening to deeply explore the traders' experiences and the market environment.
Surveys: Through detailed one-on-one surveys, we gathered insights on market ecosystems, spatial layout, and operational practices, documenting the traders' perspectives and day-to-day realities.
Market Process Mapping: To synthesize our findings, we developed diagrams that mapped the flow of goods, stall layouts, and on-site processing, detailing both front-of-house and back-of-house operations.
Community Feedback: In appreciation of the traders and to give back to the community, we are planning a street exhibition. This event will share our findings, promote transparency, and encourage active citizen participation.
